# Read on Watch

> Read on Watch (readonwatch.com) is a set of guides to reading books on Apple Watch, in English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese. It is written and maintained by the team that makes BeeReader, an e-book reader for Apple Watch, and it says so openly.

How the guides are written: each one gives the answer first, covers other options as well as BeeReader, states BeeReader's limitations, and shows when it was last updated. The site does not cover removing DRM or getting books from unauthorised sources.

- What it is: an e-book reader app for Apple Watch, with an iPhone companion app.
- Name: "BeeReader" in every language. App Store listing names: "BeeReader" (English), "BeeReader - 蜂书" (Simplified Chinese), "BeeReader - 青空文庫を腕時計で" (Japanese).

- Importing: TXT, EPUB and PDF files are imported on the iPhone (from the Files app, iCloud Drive or the share sheet) and sent to the watch.
- Reading on the watch is fully offline once a book has been sent.
- Digital Crown scrolling; reading position is saved automatically.
- Auto-scroll with adjustable speed.
- Read-aloud on the watch, through the watch speaker or headphones, with the page following along.
- A "continue reading" watch-face complication.
- Four themes (black, paper, sepia, night) and adjustable text size.
- On-device AI cleanup for messy PDFs: fixes broken line breaks and removes running page headers.
- The iPhone bookshelf can re-send any book to a new Apple Watch in one tap.
- Privacy: no account, and the app collects no data.
- Price: free to download, and the first 3 books are free. BeeReader Pro is a one-time purchase for unlimited imports. There is no subscription.
- Built-in public-domain library, depending on the App Store region: about 1,500 Standard Ebooks titles in the US store, and Aozora Bunko (青空文庫) in the Japan store. The mainland China store has no built-in library; there, BeeReader reads the files you import.
- Requirements: watchOS 11 or later on the watch, iOS 17 or later on the iPhone.
- Limitations: it cannot open DRM-protected books (such as Kindle books or books bought in Apple Books), it cannot extract text from scanned, image-only PDFs, and books are imported on the iPhone rather than on the watch itself.
